Ayurvedic texts call bhringraj Keshraj, the king of hair. The plant grows close to the ground in damp soil across India, and its leaves have been pressed into hair oils in Indian households for centuries.
Where it grows
Bhringraj (Eclipta alba) is a low, sprawling herb with small white flowers, found along the edges of fields and waterways through much of India. It is common enough that many people have walked past it without knowing its name.
Its traditional place in hair care
In classical practice bhringraj is used to nourish the scalp, and it is associated with keeping hair looking dark and healthy. It is usually prepared as an oil, because oil carries the herb and makes it easy to massage into the scalp — which is where a hair routine begins in Ayurveda.
Paired with hibiscus
Our Ramy's Bhringraj Hair Oil combines bhringraj with hibiscus. Hibiscus is a natural conditioner containing amino acids and Vitamin C, and it helps soften dry hair so it feels smoother and easier to manage. The two are a long-standing pairing in Indian hair care: one for the scalp, one for the length.
How to use it
Warm a little oil between your palms, massage it into the scalp for five to ten minutes, and leave it on for at least an hour or overnight before washing it out with a mild Ayurvedic shampoo. Used once or twice a week, it becomes an easy part of the routine rather than another task.
What to expect
Traditional preparations work slowly. Give any oil a few weeks of steady use, and judge it on how your scalp and hair feel over that period rather than after a single wash.
